The distance between your current location and your new home or company headquarters is a decisive factor in the cost of a move. The further the distance, the higher the transportation costs usually are.

The amount of furniture, items and packaging materials that need to be transported has a direct impact on costs. This is because the volume also increases the need for manpower and vehicles (or the size of the truck) as well as the time required. The rule is: more volume usually leads to higher costs.

Do your removal goods include items that require special protection during the move? These include antiques, art and fragile or important personal items. The accessibility of both locations plays a role in pricing. If narrow stairwells or the lack of an elevator cause problems when loading or unloading, this can result in additional costs.

The timing of your move can also affect the cost. As a rule, weekends, public holidays and summer months are popular times for removals, which may cause prices to rise due to high demand and tight capacity. So if you are a little more flexible in this respect and move outside of peak times, you can save costs.

Whether you move on your own or hire a reputable removal company such as Krügel Umzüge: In addition to the actual removal costs, there are always a few necessary obligations and activities that also incur costs. While the issues of "packing materials" and "no stopping zone" are taken care of by themselves (included in the price) when you hire Krügel Umzüge, you should definitely take the following points into account when calculating your costs:

Renovation costs:
You should include any damage to your old home or the clause in your tenancy agreement stating that the apartment must be left freshly painted in the financial planning for your move. (Professional painting companies charge around 10 euros per square meter).

Deposit:
Before you move into your new home, you will be required to pay a rental deposit of a maximum of 3 net cold rents. Please bear in mind that the deposit for the existing apartment is often paid out late!

Forwarding order:
You can use a forwarding order to ensure that your mail arrives reliably at your new address after your move. It is not uncommon to find out which senders still need to be informed. You can find the relevant prices on the Deutsche Post website.

Re-registrations:
After moving house, there are various re-registrations to be made. First of all, you must re-register your place of residence (costs around 10 euros) and your car (costs around 25 euros). In your own interest alone, you should take care of new electricity, gas and telecommunications providers in good time.

Estate agent fees:
Since 2015, the so-called ordering principle has applied to estate agent fees for rental properties. You only have to pay an estate agent if you hire one yourself when looking for accommodation.

Transfer payments:
The classic transfer payments are the kitchen from the previous tenant and certain services such as painting work from the next tenant. Individual claims arise here.

Removal insurance:
A removal company already provides basic insurance cover. If you move yourself, you can be held liable for any damage. Moving insurance protects you - this usually costs around 0.25 percent of the value of the move.

The short answer: yes. In more detail: Whether you are moving for private or professional reasons, certain costs can be claimed for tax purposes.

If you move for professional reasons, you can declare so-called income-related expenses, provided certain conditions are met. The new employment contract or a certificate from the company will help to prove to the tax office that the move was really for work-related reasons. Please note: If the employer covers the (proportionate) relocation costs, the tax advantage does not apply! It is up to you to decide whether you want to deduct your costs item by item on the basis of the receipts to be submitted, or rely on the flat-rate relocation costs allowance. It is best to talk to your tax advisor.

If you are moving for private reasons, you can also partially declare certain costs in your tax return. These include costs for a removal company and so-called household-related services that arise in connection with the move. You can claim 20 percent of the latter up to a maximum of 4,000 euros. Of course, you must be able to provide the relevant receipts.
